It’s been crazy busy here at work so I didn’t have time to sit down with this topic and go over the points I wanted to make. I think on a conceptual level award shows are a good idea. They allow us to congratulate our peers and give them some g-d recognition, which is important. It’s good to recognize the quality out there and the great shows that exist.
I think the problem is that award shows all trend away from the webseries creators who don’t have resources to put into award shows, and that’s by necessity unfortunately. Frankly, at my “webseries level,” the work and money required to participate is not worth it. I’d rather spend that submission fee on an actor that would get my show the attention of an award show, or up the animation quality, or INVEST in my show in a way that directly affects what is in the frame.
